Three Sailors Grave

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

The Three Sailors Grave on Sunset Boulevard, Seaside (bobcat)

Description

Three unknown sailors, "known only to God", are buried here. Their bodies washed up on the beach after a storm on April 25th, 1865. The previous day, the men had rowed ashore from a vessel anchored far beyond the surf. They wanted to load up with fresh water, and met a local man, a Mr. Hobson, while filling their casks. Hobson watched them row out into the teeth of the storm and lit a fire to guide them back. They were found on the beach the next day.

Now, local residents help to maintain the grave where Hobson buried these three unknown souls.
