The Dome (Gearhart Mountain)

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

View to The Dome from a viewpoint off the Gearhart Mountain Trail (bobcat)

Description

The Dome is a steep-sided andesitic formation on Gearhart Mountain's southeast ridge. Its base is about 100 yards above the Gearhart Mountain Trail. From higher up the trail, you can make an off-trail sortie to a viewpoint over The Dome and the rugged Upper Palisade formations which extend above it. The more adventurous could spend a good half day scrambling among these eroded volcanic remnants. In late spring, wildflowers adorn the small meadows and forest glades in this area.
