Pilot Butte

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

At the summit area, Pilot Butte (bobcat)

Description

Pilot Butte is a 190,000 year-old cinder cone in the City of Bend. Views extend over the sprawl of Central Oregon's vacation mecca to the Cascade peaks, from Mount Hood south to the very top of Diamond Peak. Mount Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, and Black Butte are all visible to the northwest. Mount Washington, the Three Sisters, and Mount Bachelor are closer at hand, with Bend’s Awbrey Butte the hill across the Deschutes River. Interpretive signs are posted around the walled viewing area at the top of the butte. There are also restrooms at the summit.
