Driving Directions

Drive I-84 east and take Exit 104 for Highway 97, Yakima, and Bend. Turn right after exiting for Wasco and Bend.

Go through a traffic light in Biggs and drive 7.5 miles on Highway 97 before making a left for Wasco.

Go 1.8 miles into Wasco, and make a right on Clark Street for Moro and Bend.

In 0.2 miles, turn left for Highway 206E, Condon, and Cottonwood Canyon State Park.

Continue for 24.2 miles, descending Cottonwood Canyon and crossing the John Day River before rising to the plateau again.

Turn left on Devils Butte Road for Mikkalo, and go 10.3 miles on this gravel track that has a decent surface from April through October. You’ll drop to the bottom of Hay Creek Canyon, where you turn left after crossing a bridge.

Proceed 2.0 miles to a gate and kiosk, and park to the right.

Note: Devils Butte Road is not maintained from November 1st to April 1st.
