White River Ford (Bonney Meadows Trail)

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

The area of the ford on the White River, Bonney Meadows Trail (bobcat)

Description

Currently the best crossing of the White River at this ford is upstream from where the main Bonney Meadows Trail meets the river. Use trails on both sides of the river should direct you. Head straight across. The water is cold and flowing at a generous pace. Use trekking poles for balance and unbuckle your pack in case you fall. Keep some kind of footwear on to ensure good purchase on the river bed. The crossing is generally safe if you have poles and the water is flowing thigh deep. Once your hips and torso go under, there is more resistance and it is more difficult to keep your balance.
