Valley View Cabin Site

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Ceramic sink from the cabin (bobcat)
Lydia Springs, next to the cabin site (bobcat)

Description

The site of the Valley View Cabin is right above the 4860-140 road and just east of gushing Lydia Springs. Nothing remains of the cabin building, which had no foundation and was dismantled sometime in the late 1980s. The cabin was probably built in the 1930s, when the lookout at the top of Badger Butte was established. Lookout crews used the cabin and later, after the decommissioning of the lookout, it became available for public use.

Since the cabin was right next to a road, it also suffered some vandalism. The outhouse pit is east of the building site in the woods and a ceramic sink is the major remnant of the cabin's accoutrements. Also, the trees have grown up and there is no longer a view down the Pine Creek Valley.
