Description

Monte Carlo is a mile-long basalt ridge in the Monte Cristo Range west of the White Salmon River. The actual high point on the ridge, at 4045 feet, is at its southern end, near the Monte Carlo-Buck Creek Trail Junction. The ridge continues north with limited views: a series of meadows interspersed with montane woodland. At one point, you can drop to the west off the ridgeline to get good views towards Indian Heaven. The northern meadow, which is the most interesting section to visit, offers a vista towards Mount Adams.

Numerous wildflower species bloom on this ridge crest late spring, including shrubby penstemon, white western groundsel, ball-head waterleaf, naked broomrape, Martindale's desert parsley, upland larkspur, harsh paintbrush, glacier lily, and worm-leaf stonecrop.
