Grasshopper Mountain

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

View to Highrock Mountain from the lookout site on Grasshopper Mountain (bobcat)

Description

At the summit of Grasshopper Mountain, you can find the four concrete feet of the last iteration of various lookouts that were constructed here: this one was erected in 1958 and decommissioned in the 1970s. From this spot, you can look east to see the summits of Weaver Mountain and Fish Mountain to the left of Highrock Mountain. Hershberger Mountain, which still has a lookout perched below the summit, is to the right. Buckeye Lake and Cliff Lake can be plainly seen nestled in the forest below, while stretching to the northwest are various ridges and peaks between the drainages of the North and South Umpqua rivers. Looking down the cliffs at your feet, you can see alternating layers of hard lava and soft ash deposits.
