Description
Munra Point may rival Table Mountain and Dog Mountain as one of the best viewpoints in the Columbia River Gorge. What is lacks in elevation, it makes up for with it's unique tri-ridge summit, sheer exposure, and short but steep scramble to get there. Munra Point is the rocky ridge between Nesmith Ridge and Wauna Point. It towers high above Tanner Creek just to the east and Moffett Creek just to the west. The vertex where the three ridges come together is the true summit. (Climbing this knob presents a bit of danger with little room for error.)
From this point you see Table Mountain directly to the north, with the Bonneville Dam and the Bridge of the Gods off to the distance to the northeast.
This is a dry-weather destination. The rock here is well-eroded and can be quite slippery when wet.
According to Oregon Geographic Names, Munra Point was named back in 1915 for Katherine Sterrett Munra, a restaurant owner in Bonneville, OR. She was affectionately known by locals as "Grandma Munra".
