Siouxon Creek Trail report on hike of Sept. 15, 20007

Posted by musikhiker (2007-09-20)

On 9-15, I hiked the Siouxon Creek Trail which is a nice ramble through thick woods. However, much to my dismay, I found that this trail attracks many mountain bikers and dogs without leashes. Some of the mt. bikers weren't aware of the trail etiquette which requires them to defer to hikers. I also saw one young man with a gun (rifle ?) strapped to his pack helping to take a large cooler down the trail as I was about to leave after finishing my hike. Just thought you'd like to know what you're facing if you hike this trail--at least on a Saturday.

Thanks for your note Musikhiker. I need to get back up on the Siouxon again. It's been several years.

That trail has drawn bicyclists for years. I can remember seeing bikes there in the 80s, when mountain bikes were rarer beasts. I don't really recall having much trouble with them, though. What specific problems did you run into?

I did this hike on a hot July Sunday and I too encountered mountain bikers and off-leash dogs. No guns, though. I didn't have any trouble with the mountain bikers, but one of the off-leash dogs growled at me. This trail seemed to have a pretty high proportion of people who obviously aren't regular hikers. Inappropriate footwear, almost no food and water, etc. Not that it's a difficult trail, but you won't ever catch me hiking in sandals.
