Description
A 2008 voter-approved bond measure allowed the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District to develop natural spaces around Cedar Mill Creek. The measure provided funding for a universal access trail which leads through Jordan Woods: you can also take spurs from this short paved route to Cedar Mill Park and down to Cedar Mill Creek itself. With the opening of the new Jordan Woods Trail in 2013 and the Cedar Mill Park connector in 2014, visitors can now access the woods above this section of Cedar Mill Creek from three different directions.
Walk clockwise on the paved trail around the lawn area at Jackie Husen Park. Come to the sign for the Jordan Woods Natural Area, and follow the wide trail into a leafy forest of Douglas-fir, western red-cedar and big-leaf maple. Cedar Mill Creek runs down to your left. Soon come to a junction and keep right for the Cedar Mill Creek Overlook. Twinberry bushes line the trail and benches and sculpted waypoints invite you to contemplate nature. Pass steps leading up to 107th Avenue: this is the spur route to Cedar Mill Park. The universal access trail loops down to a walled overlook: Cedar Mill Creek is visible from here when the leaves are down, but there’s not much of a view in summer.
Return to the steps and head up to 107th Avenue. Cross Jordan Lane and then find the paved trail that leads left past homes and into a leafy corridor of maples. Enter the developed area of Cedar Mill Park, with its playground under tall Douglas-firs. Then return the way you came from Jordan Woods and go left.
Next, take the trail leading down towards Cedar Mill Creek. This gravel tread switchbacks to a footbridge over the creek. After the bridge, there’s a boardwalk through a lush bottomland and then the trail uses a staircase to ascend to Lost Park Drive. You can wander about the neighborhood streets here or return to Jordan Woods and your vehicle.
