Directions
This is usually closed in the winter. There's a gate 6.5 miles from the trailhead, right after the bridge across the Quinalt. Call the Park Service to find current conditions.
From Portland, drive North on I-5 to Centralia, about 95 miles.
Drive West on highway 12 to Aberdeen 47 miles.
Continue West on highway 101 to Hoquiam 5 miles.
Drive North on highway 101 to South Shore road 36 miles. If you get to Amanda Park you've gone too far, turn around.
Drive East on South Shore Road 20 miles to it's end at the Graves Creek trailhead. The first 10 miles is paved. Then it's gravel. The last 6.5 miles is especially potholed, but still drivable in regular passenger vehicle. This last 20 miles probably takes about an hour.
Graves Creek Campground is just before the trailhead. There's no gate so it's open year-round. No services or fees in the winter. There are about 50 sites.
You pass the Quinalt Ranger Station about 2 miles from highway 101. You can get self-issuing permit if it's after hours.
There are some campgrounds along the way. At least one is open in the winter. They can all be full in the summer.
Stop at historic Quinalt Lodge about 2 miles from highway 101. There are a number of places you can rent a room. Probably open in the winter.
There are places to eat around Quinalt Lodge or at Amanda Park. More services in Hoquiam/Aberdeen.
