Description
NOTE: This railroad car was destroyed in the July 2018 Substation Fire.
At mile 5.6 is an old railroad car. It would offer some protection if the weather was bad. The doors and windows are open (gone) and some of the wood is rotten.
You are quite high above the river here, and the place offers some commanding views. A rough trail descends to the river, and across the Deschutes you can see the mouth of Allen Canyon and the rugged Free Bridge Road descending the steep slope.
Note that the "second" railroad car, which used to stand at Mile 7.8, is now gone.
