Hey guys!
My fiance and I are looking for a spot to have a small intimate ceremony in the Gorge. There are a few rules... It has to be an easy hike to a spot (ideally less than a mile and not too much elevation because I don't think my parents could handle too much) and hopefully not super busy. We are getting married on Sat March 18th 2017. Let me know what you guys think! I would love as much input as possible!

Catherine Creek. There should be quite a few wildflowers by mid-March. (It might be busy though.)

First of all congratulations!adamschneider wrote:Catherine Creek. There should be quite a few wildflowers by mid-March. (It might be busy though.)
My first thought would to find a spot on the lower loop at Catherine Creek. There is good access, great views and (in my experience) few people. A further advantage of the eastern Gorge is a good chance of clement weather. I would say that the amount of parking spots is also pretty much unlimited, so you can invite everybody and their dog!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…
Re: Elopement
That could be wet. Maybe find a place sheltered from the rain, at least as a contingency plan?jande111 wrote:We are getting married on Sat March 18th 2017. Let me know what you guys think! I would love as much input as possible!

Re: Elopement
yeah, lot of rain in March
East in gorge like Catherine Creek is sometimes drier
There's a day use shelter at Beacon Rock that's covered
There's a day use shelter at Eagle Creek. Take the Eagle Creek recreation area exit, then turn left and go under the freeway. Then walk up to the shelter. Nice view across river. There's a covered area accessible even when closed. You could rent the interior. Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area.

That building will be closed and boarded up that time of year. I think you could still get to the little covered patio in front, but even still you probably wouldn't want your wedding photos full of lovely views of sheets of plywood.retired jerry wrote:There's a day use shelter at Eagle Creek.
If weather is good, though, that Eagle Creek Overlook could still be an option. Iirc there are some picnic sites on the river side with nice views (and not of the boarded up building). And you are all but 100% guaranteed to have it all to yourself. Last time I was there (off-season) I felt like I was the only person who'd ever been there.
