Spirit, Pinard and Moon Falls 3/5/2016

Post by kaltbluter » March 7th, 2016, 6:25 am

It's been so long since the last time I took the kids to these waterfalls that they couldn't remember going. On Saturday we decided to fix that and left early for the hills East of Cottage Grove.

Spirit Falls was our first stop. There were a couple blow downs but they were small enough that they were more entertainment than annoyance.

From there we drove to the Pinard Falls Trailhead to take in the sights there.

We decided to stop here. The trail does continue down to the base of the falls but it's a little steep and looked pretty muddy.

Speaking of mud, there was plenty of it.

Moon Falls was up next. You have to cross the creek to get the best view so I tossed a chunk of split tree accross for the kids.

I wonder if Moon Falls gets its name from the crescent shaped basalt ridge near the bottom.

These three little hikes went by too fast, I think we may have spent more time driving than hiking. It seemed like a much longer hike back when we traveled at the pace of a two year old:
