Tryon Creek (Cedar Trail) - active landslide Jan 30th

Post by BigBear » February 1st, 2016, 12:44 pm

On Sunday morning, I witnessed a landslide creeping its way down a shallow ravine just above the Cedar Trail in Tryon Creek State Park. This location is about a quarter-mile north of the Red Fox trail junction. There were trees falling and lots of logs cracking as the large slab of earth crept toward the trail. It is likely that this trail will get a closure until the ground firms up.

There were a couple of other places where ponds were forming along this path to the north of the slide. The other trails in Tryon Creek looked pretty good considering the amount of rain these past two months.

That must have been dramatic to witness!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…
