Thomas “Tomroy” Duhigg 1958-2015
Tom passed early this spring while on the trail doing what he loved most. Twenty of us gathered last Saturday to climb an unnamed peak just North of Mt Saint Helens christening it "Mt Tomroy" in his honor. We miss you Tom.

Thanks, Mars. This is a wonderful and fitting tribute to Tom. So glad all you folks gathered to honor him.

What a great day. I think my favorite part was the fact that everyone made the summit at the same time, laughing and smiling on top of Mt Tomroy! Then Peder busts out the letters and numbers and Lynelle busts out a new summit register in Tom's honor. It was a great moment and one that I think we'll all cherish for a long time.
I love the video Tim, I've watched it three or four times now and will watch it many more times in the future. You, Eric and Guy should start a business filming/photographing hiking trips, outdoor adventures etc. Maybe even weddings!?! I think it could work!

This is a great video. We never met Tom but we are happy to have been part of his memorial. What a great hiking community we have!

Tim, ditto on what others have said about your video!! Excellent!
Here are a few of the pics I took:
And, BTW, both my water bottle level and both GPS's agreed that Mount Tomroy is higher than Mount Margaret. It will take another trip with better equipment to be sure but first results look promising. Tom's new namesake peak is surely the more impressive looking.
Five of us went on to the summit of Mount Margaret and got some nice views of Mount Tomroy along the way:
And something else: Sunday evening the 27th, I drove into the area to camp and see the eclipse and noted that there was a strong east wind all night and into the morning. A couple days later, I climbed Mt. Bismarck and noted that the floating logs on Spirit Lake were all pushed into the west shoreline. I had never seen that before and took this photo:
The wind changed to westerly and drove the logs back later that week but changed to easterly again and as we hiked on Sunday, the logs were again on a journey back across the lake to the western shore.
At 10:52 AM they looked like this:
At 3:12 PM, they were nearly all the way back across:

As all the others have already said: It was a great day, and what a great tribute. I never got to meet Tom, but it felt really good to be on the trail and on "his" mountain to honor him.
