Rd 1828 off Lolo Pass rd still closed due to fire

Post by anna » July 28th, 2015, 8:22 am

Apparently, there was an 11 acre fire in this area on Sat (this from another hiker I met on the Salmon river trail), FS still had the main turn off road closed yesterday morn, 7/27. Per the sign, even the McGee Creek and Vista ridge trailheads are closed, I was hoping to go to Top Spur. Anyone have more info on this ?

I looked on the Mt. Hood NF website yesterday and there was no mention of any closures due to the fire. Not sure how they missed that, but then again they still haven't figured out their NW Forest Pass is "unambiguously prohibited" 2 1/2 years since Adams vs USFS. Maybe next summer they'll have a post about the fire.

Forest Service website isn't very good for current conditions

Like they'll say something's closed for the winter when it's August :)

Wow, such a contrast to other forests. I've been keeping an eye on Marion Lake fire in Willamette NF and they are doing an awesome job keeping things updated, check out their News & Events page:

http://www.fs.usda.gov/news/willamette/news-events

Their twitter feed is good too:

Too bad the emphasis on current conditions information is not there as much for Mt Hood NF.

miah66: I like that "may happen next fall" - I think I'll use that one myself.

Over the weekend the closure of just into Old Maid Flats was on their home page. I saw it was down this morning and assumed with the weather and small size of the fire that they had re-opened it. How weird they take it down and expand the closure..

The MHNF has always been bad about keeping their website up-to-date, but the Rogue River Siskiyou NF wins the prize for "Longest Time Since We Updated Recreation Information On Our Site." For many of their trails, lookouts, etc. under Current Conditions it says "03/15/2013: No current conditions report available." Two and a half years since an update!
