Bosterson and ebishop invited me to join them on a Dog Mtn. Augspurger Mtn. loop.
They were arriving around 7:00 but I thought I had try to get there earlier and get a head start on those two mighty speedsters
and take my sweet time getting up the biggest EG of the day. I started around 6:45 and when I met up with them
on the Dog summit, I think they said they started around 7:15.
Early morning shot being under the inversion and just below cougar meadow on the steeper Dog spur -
Breaking out of the inversion just below Puppy Dog -
Got up to Puppy Dog and shot a little video of the cascading clouds that were rounding the bend -
Sadly there was no flower show yet
There appears to be a user made short cut of sorts that tramples across the face of Dog Mtn and did spot some
snow shoe tracks that may have been Jack's from a few weeks earlier or even the SAR crews that saved
someone recently too. I wanted to get some pictures from that vantage point so I cut up careful to stay
on the existing user made swath.
Soon after Bosterson and ebishop appeared below and I tried to get some shots of them advancing on my position -
Below Dog Mt. summit -
Intersected the summit spur trail -
Not long after I met up with Bos and Shop, tagged Dog and waited with them while they snacked.
Since there weren't any flowers on Dog we decided to head over to Augspurger to check to see if any flowers were over there yet.
On the way under Dog -
Somehow I started to doubt the rumor Dog Mt. was known for it's flower shows.
But we trudged on anyway.
Shoeing up finally -
Using some powerline access roads that serve double as the Augspurger Trail, Bos decided we should take a shortcut
up a very very steep and tiring hill. Almost wiping me out for the day, I was able to get some rest pictures along the way.
Stats for this steep short cut:
550' of EG in .43 miles with a 23% grade.
Finally caught up with the speedsters where they were basking in the warming trend -
With 1 more decent sized steep section left to go, I had to get down to just my t-shirt base layer, must have been
at least 50 in the sun heading up to the final resting spot.
Stats for the last super steep section:
640' of EG in 3/4 mile with only a 16% grade, but the snow was a little slushy being a full sun slope.
Just 1 short steep section left just about wiped me out for the day, but Bos took us down a little ways from
the summit of Augspurger where we at lunch and did a little more sun bathing.
My current hero is Bosterson -
Even though Augspurger Mt. is higher than Dog, there was still too much snow for any sign of flowers yet.
We high tailed it back to the TH using the Augspurger Trail.
Some pictures along the return trail -
And finally Garmin has fixed the in hike accumulated ascent bug for my 62s and is working a lot better now!
14 miles, 5600' of EG

Wow, can't believe how little snow is still there!
Sure would've expected a better flower show, myself...

I'm jealous! Hopefully, I will be released soon from my home internment. What wonderful T-shirt weather.
Did carrying two bottles of beer slow down ebishop, or can she carry more?

Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

If ebishop can carry a six pack I'm in on the next trip ..
