yeah, good point

maybe trailheads that are harder to get to and not heavily used. Wouldn't make sense for bad guys to check it out.

Got half way up Kings Mt once and realized I left me wallet in plain view on the car seat, that was a fun heart pounding race back to the TH
I once left my wallet on my dashboard. Black wallet, black dashboard, pre-dawn start, easy to overlook. The break-in cost THOUSANDS of dollars to fix, mostly covered by insurance.

Yep. Wallets are a thing, apparently. Remember leaving mine on the dash at Angels Rest Trailhead. Halfway up, I remembered. Decided to let the angels punish me if they wanted and finished the hike. It was still there, in plain view and standing out in its colorful duct tape, when I got back.

I picked up a friend for a hike, and he plonked his boots on top of my car, forgetting to remove them. Only realized it when we got to the trailhead. I made him hike in his sandals. He later found one boot on the side of McLoughlin Boulevard.

Forgot tent poles. Only, I didn't forget mine. I forgot my husband's. We didn't have a 2P yet, so I packed my two 1P tents. We hiked in, he unpacked... No poles. He was a good sport and just wrapped up in the tent like a bivy.

Car broken into at Angels Rest in November. I was parked two spaces away.

It happens because we tolerate it.
If we didn't tolerate it, it would stop happening.
