Short cut across Hamilton Creek

Post by Don Nelsen » December 5th, 2023, 4:27 pm

In light of all this rain we've been having I took a look at the alternate Hamilton Creek access to Aldrich Butte and Table Mountain.

Last August it was as dry as could be and checking the stream gauge, it had been that way since July 11th. Here's what it looked like last summer:

Today was a different story altogether!

That seasonal watercourse is being emphatically seasonal! What with the abundant warm rain and multiple days of warm temperatures I'm waiting to see what has happened to the snow levels this week, not to mention where there's trail damage from swift runoffs.

nice before and after photos Don

it's hard to capture how hard it is to cross a stream in a picture, but I think I'll avoid that one

And that's why I was so shocked when Don posted his dry pic a while back. I've only seen it raging.

That's my preferred route to Table or Aldrich. Unambiguously legal, and Hamilton creek is usually low enough to ford in the weather conditions where one would want to do it. Besides, I sort of like parking across the road from a concrete plant...
