All-New for 2018! A snow level thread.
Re: All-New for 2018! A snow level thread.
No snow to the top of Huckleberry Mt. in the Salmon-Huckleberry wilderness, via Boulder Ridge/Plaza trails. 4250 ft.

4,350' on Mt Defiance. Patches toward the top on-trail, but easy to get through, don't even slow you down. Summit is clear.

Curious what trail you used to get there and how the roads were?

Yep, you are good to go. Minor patches of snow on wildcat but not impactful at all. The plaza is pretty much all melted too.

Interesting. On 5/20 I looked over at Ed's from Starway, and it looked totally clear. I think I know the sections you're referring to, where a slide would not end well. I'm not sure if it's all melted out, or if there was a snowy stretch I couldn't see. Still much snow approaching SS summit, but firm, and route is easy to follow.Thuja wrote: ↑May 21st, 2018, 10:39 amAs of 5/17, scattered snow drifts on Ed's trail, Silver Star, around 4000', 0.75 trail-miles from the summit. Snow drifts are not deep but inconveniently on the steepest part of the trail and did not feel comfortable crossing them. No snow anywhere else on trail - came up from Tarbell TH via Kloochman butte. I assume all south and west facing trails to summit are clear, but don't know for sure.

Re: All-New for 2018! A snow level thread.
Looking for an overnight backpacking trip this weekend (training for a longer one later in the summer) with some decent mileage during which I won't have to manage deep snow. Any ideas?
Thanks folks!
