Re: Official 2017 Snow Level Thread
They told on KGW snow level was 300' today, with heavy accumulations up in the mountains. Was definitely snowing heavy in East Portland this morning, all but melted in half an hour.

We've got some gorge training going on this weekend, any snowline / depth beta for around Larch would be appreciated!
Last I saw the North Fork Snotel functioning last night it was sitting at 17" snow depth

Our PortlandHikers FB group had two reports overnight. Sounds like 5" at the gate, 26" in the parking lot.Lurch wrote:We've got some gorge training going on this weekend, any snowline / depth beta for around Larch would be appreciated!

Yesterday, a plow pushed up to the 315 road, leaving the road an icy mess (for walking, and destroying skiing) to that point.

Snow level on Multnomah Creek was ~1200' yesterday, with a little over two feet at 4000'. But I'm guessing today's changing that...

Hardesty Mountain, Saturday 12-10.
Patchy snow started at about 3400'. Trail mostly covered by 3900'. About 10-12" in the deeper patches at the top.

Did a little jaunt up to the top of Hamilton Mt. on 12-13. There was snow on the road leading up to the trailhead and the gate was closed. Put on microspikes at the TH parking lot due to icy spots on the well trodden trail. 2”- 4” of snow up to the lower viewpoint at 1600’. No other boot tracks past there. No doubt, since the trail had a few sections of steep crusted over drifts along the traverse to the saddle that looks down on the dam. Put on snowshoes on one of the switchbacks below the talus slope and it was easy going on 6”-10” of snow from there to the top. Snow depth increased considerably just below the summit to 2’.
The snowdrifts on the traverse had steep drop-offs and were very hazardous. Not recommended..

I find this photo quite aesthetic for some reason.

I'm wanting to take my two little children snowshoeing, but... they are little, and suffer from ennui when stuck in the car too long. Anyone have a good guess as to whether there is snow at Old Maid Flat? (AKA, the road to Ramona Falls). Would be much appreciated!
