Beginning of September I saw a lot of Mountain Laurel Ash - those red berries that bears like - on the Timberline Trail.
I saw some scat full of berries.
Anyone see any bears up there? Now would be a perfect time.

Not around Hood and not in Oregon, but I've seen a bear 3 times in a little over a month. Lucky streak! Two were in National Parks, one was in National Forest. All in Washington. I wasn't real close to the last one, but I'm assuming it was feasting on the blueberries and huckleberries that have about hit their peak. The first one was in Olympic NP and it was probably not much more than 20 feet away from me when I suddenly became aware of it on the trail in front of me. Got a real good look at that bruin.

OK, here's a link to a TR from another site with several pics of the alleged bear.

Well, my bear didn't have a cub in tow, so that can change the dynamic a bit. You got a great shot of the two of them standing out against the skyline as they amble along a rock slab!adamschneider wrote: Holy crap! That beats my July bear encounter.

That photo of the bear coming straight towards you is amazing. Perfect focus on his eyes, which were hard to look away from in a photo, but I imagine if I were confronted with them in person my instinct would be to get the heck out of the way!

That shot is zoomed in somewhat. I did start working on getting out of the way right after I shot that, but the bear yielded the trail to me. Maybe I should've been scared, but I was so thrilled that fear didn't kick in. The bear was in no way aggressive nor defensive. It was just going about its business.
