Bowl and doily spider observed

Post by johnspeth » July 12th, 2023, 9:45 am

On July 12, 2023 I observed the interesting bowl and doily spider on the Stahlman Point trail near Detroit. I'm sorry I have no pictures. There are plenty on the web. At a glance, the web looks like a jumble of wet non-moving cobwebs. A closer look reveals a complex intentional construction. Strands appear wet and randomly positioned, probably furthest from the truth as far as the spider is concerned. The "bowl" was about 8 inches wide. The "doily" was slightly bigger about 6 inches below the bowl. It was a real treat to examine.
