-- PLANNED TRAIL CLOSURE--
Please be advised: The lower section of the trail will be closed for repairs to a small footbridge from Monday Oct. 23-Friday Oct. 27
WTA volunteers will be construction a new retaining wall and bridge footing for a bridge that was heavily damaged in last winter's ice storm when a tree tipped over ripping a section of it out. We built a temporary fix to limp through the summer.
You can still hike to Rodney Falls and Hamilton Mountain, but you'll have to walk up through the main campground to the Hadley Trail which then joins the Hamilton Mt. Trail.
- Sorry for the inconvenience! Ryan
Elaine K. surveys the damage, winter 2017.
Pat K. checks out the root we needed to extract to put in a temporary support.
This quick repair took a day and we used it as an opportunity to measure/design a more permanent fix.
This temporary fix will be replaced this fall with a rock gabion retaining wall and new rock gabion sill pad which will support the existing bridge. Our hope is that investing in rock gabions will mean the next time the bridge has to be replaced, we will be able to reuse the sill pad since rocks don't rot!
