Hello and thank you!

Post by Hannepdx » September 30th, 2023, 6:05 pm

First time poster here, but used this site and forums extensively to plan a 2 week trip through NE Oregon that we just returned from. While weather means I don’t have as many complete trip reports to post as I’d like, I’ll be posting some over the next few weeks as all the trip reports were so helpful in planning hikes in the Strawberry Mountain area, Hells Canyon and the Wallowas. Thanks to all of you who regularly contribute trip reports—such a valuable resource! Looking forward to planning more trips, and here’s a question: what are your favorite hikes with a campground at or very close to the trailhead? We have a rooftop tent, so once we’re set up we’re not driving to a trailhead. Happy hiking!

I usually camp near a trailhead so I get an early start hiking. Most trailheads have places to camp. If you were sleeping in your car you could just do it in the parking area at most trailheads.

Tilly Jane on the east side of Mount Hood is pretty nice. Hike up to Cooper Spur and the high point of the Timberline Trail.

Or Lava Camp at McKenzie Pass north of Three Sisters. Hike to Minnie Scott Spring and Opie Dilldock Pass.

Love the Tilly Jane suggestion, thank you! While I would happily pull up in a trailhead parking lot, the other half prefers a campground (picnic table and vault toilet at minimum) 😂

I always like to guess whether a new poster is a human or a bot

Hannepdx - most likely a human

sillydiscrete - 99% likely a bot - in two weeks you'll need skis to get to tilly jane

There once was a post by a bot
