While driving past Hood River the other day my eye, not for the first time, fixed upon a dramatic looking bluff rising above the road. As I am getting more adventurous in my hiking I wonder if this summit might be attainable. It is marked on the USGS and Forest Service topo maps simply as "View" with an elevation of 700.

I am sure other people have been up this but I cannot find a trip report. I assume the natural approach is from the HCRH to the south. I will need to borrow or rent a bicycle to get to that point so I would like some idea of what to expect.
p.s. Happy Thanksgiving!

Looks to me like it should be a pretty easy scramble, although there may be some loose talus on the lower end.
But you don't need a bike; you could just walk/jog/rollerskate two miles up the trail from the Hood River side.

Wondered about that too. It might be on private land?

It's state-owned land: Koberg Beach State Park.Guy wrote:Wondered about that too. It might be on private land?

Adam, I did not realize there was a Street View for the HCRH State Trail. That makes "scouting" this much easier. Thank you.
I haven't checked distances extensively but I probably do need to bike because can't hike far, and I wouldn't want to start tired from the walk up the road. For normal people it of course isn't a problem.

Quickest access is from the shoulder of I84, around the ponds and the railroad tunnel that has the nice viewpoint above it (unmistakable from I84 when driving eastbound). Although the distance is greater on the HCRH path, it's quick and easy, not steep, and grants very easy access to the peak via gentle grassy slopes. Either way, it's lovely terrain, and highly recommended. The steeper routes on the west side are a blast too, so experienced scramblers can explore with the comfort of a pleasant safe descent.

Very kind of you to say that, but the truth is I just discovered it a few weeks ago. Here's my TR: http://www.oregonhikers.org/forum/viewt ... 70#p188370Webfoot wrote:Thanks Chip Down! Totally not surprised that you have the beta.
