Mount Hood and the massive Zigzag Canyon from the Zigzag Overlook
Offtrail route going up from Zigzag Overlook

Contents

Description

2.2 miles from Timberline Lodge the Timberline Trail reaches a saddle where you can look down into the Zigzag Canyon and up to Mount Hood.

This would make a great destination for an easy hike from Timberline Lodge. Beyond here, the trail goes steeply down to the Zigzag Canyon, which discourages many hikers because they will have to hike back up. Likewise, it's fairly crowded to here with many "tourists". The crowds thin out a little beyond, but the hike to Paradise Park is popular.

An off trail route goes up from here. A difficult off trail route goes up from Paradise Park, around Mississippi Head, and then back down here.
