Description

Wy'East Camp is one of the largest camping areas on the Eagle Creek Trail. There are eight or nine distinct tent sites -- some right off the trail and others hidden from view immediately up or down hill. This camp sits in a popular section of trail for backpackers and PCT thru-hikers, so sites can get gobbled up quickly during summer weekends. (But there are several more sites North and South from this camp within a half-mile.)

No campfires are allowed here despite the presence of fire rings.

Wy'East sits right off Eagle Creek with good water access. During the wetter months look for nearby Wy'East Creek (just Northeast). If you follow your eyes upstream about 100 yards you should see Wy'East Falls - a tall, pretty seasonal ribbon-like waterfall.

Wy'East, pronounced "why east", was the term Native Americans gave to Mount Hood.

A short distance beyond Wy'East Camp is the entrance to the Mark O Hatfield Wilderness. Hikers are required to get a free permit here before continuing south toward Tunnel Falls.
