Fees and Regulations

  • Northwest Forest Pass required at the trailhead.

Driving Directions

Take exit 253 off Interstate 5 in Salem. Drive 60 miles east on North Santiam Highway 22. Between mileposts 60 and 61 (10 miles beyond Detroit), turn left on Whitewater Road 2243. The gravel road forks in about 100 yards, keep right. Follow this road 7.5 miles where it dead-ends at a large parking area. There is an outhouse and self-service wilderness register station.

Other Notes

The last 7,5 miles is on forest gravel road. It is good enough for passenger cars, but the lower 1/2 mile or so had several potholes - drive slowly.
