Driving Directions
Timberline Lodge is a venerable Depression-era masterpiece on the south slope of Mount Hood. This is the only trailhead in the Portland Hikers Field Guide that features fine dining and lodging. There is a maze of nature trails surrounding Timberline Lodge, all connecting to the Timberline Trail (no. 600), which is also the Pacific Crest Trail (no. 2000) along this portion.
To reach Timberline Lodge, follow Highway 26 a short distance past Government Camp, then turn left onto Timberline Road. Park east of the lodge in one of the signed parking areas. The upper parking area is restricted to lodge guests, and clearly marked. A snow-park permit is required to park in winter.
