For some reason, this trailhead has a lot of break-ins. This is based on a number of different reports, but is anecdotal. See oregonhikers.org thread.
Also, the road is pretty rough.
Maybe you're better off going from the North side.
Driving Directions
To get to the South Burnt Lake Trailhead, go 3 miles past Zigzag on U.S. 26 (21 miles East of Sandy, 7 miles West of Government Camp). Turn left on Road 27 (one lane paved) and go 0.5 miles. Turn left on Road 207 (single lane gravel) and go 4.5 miles to the trailhead. This last 4.5 miles are difficult, but possible, for a regular passenger vehicle because of boulders, stream channels, and mud puddles.
