Description
This ford allows you to complete a loop accessing Wildcat Falls without backtracking to the Siouxon footbridge near Chinook Creek. However, the crossing is relatively deep and requires care. Use poles and unbuckle your pack so you can shed it if you fall; otherwise it might drag you under. Wear solid footwear and don't hesitate to take the ford in your hiking boots - much safer than feeling your way barefoot or in flip-flops. Do NOT cross if you can't see the bottom. There is a deeper section at the south bank, so be prepared for this. In spring and fall, during the rainy season, an average height male may be crossing at crotch to waist depth. In summer, waters may be at mid-calf. Consider your companions' and your canine's abilities as well. See Tips for Crossing Streams.
To repeat: Do NOT attempt to cross here at times of high, rushing water. Most of the time, the Siouxon is running here at a reasonable pace that won't knock you over.
