There are two campsites right near the junction right on the lake. One is right at the junction itself, and the other is to the east about 50 yards. Both have nice water access to the lake and have great views, but will be in high demand. | There are two campsites right near the junction right on the lake. Description
This is a trail junction on the shore of Wahtum Lake. From here, the Pacific Crest Trail continues south toward Indian Mountain, Lolo Pass and eventually Mexico. North from here, the Crest Trail takes a route across Benson Plateau and then slabs down the hill westward to Cascade Locks. Groups with horses are required to use this route, but many through hikers choose to go north on Eagle Creek Trail instead. This route gives them views of the waterfalls and cliffs. It's and easy walk down the Historic Columbia River Highway Trail to Cascade Locks where they rejoin the Crest Trail.
There are two campsites right near the junction right on the lake. One is right at the junction itself, and the other is to the east about 50 yards. Both have nice water access to the lake and have great views, but will be in high demand.
Note: A day-use fee is required to use these campsites if you drove to the Wahtum Lake Trailhead. There is a drop box near the parking lot.
