Description
Owl Point is a rocky viewpoint on the Old Vista Ridge Trail that features a spectacular view of the entire north face of Mount Hood, and parts of the Upper Hood River Valley. The point is named for the great horned owls that nest here.
There is a long history of human activity in the area, with Indian ceremonial pits appearing in several rocky slopes in the vicinity and a former lookout and guard station at nearby Perry Lake. Remnants of old phone wire that connected the early lookouts and guard stations in the 1930s can still be found along the Old Vista Ridge Trail. The area also has some of the best huckleberry fields in the Mount Hood region.
