Big Douglas-fir next to the Wildwood Trail, Munger Creek (bobcat)

Description

Several large Douglas-firs, the biggest five to six feet in diameter, grow next to the Wildwood Trail on the two forks of Munger Creek. This pocket of natural forest was not logged and is dominated by conifers, including western hemlock, western red-cedar, and grand fir, rather than the big-leaf maples and red alders on nearby slopes.

Munger Creek is named after Thornton Munger, who, along with C. Paul Keyser, Fred Cleator, and Ding Cannon, were "founding fathers" of the idea behind Forest Park (The last three all have trails named after them).
