Description

Lost Lake has been a popular tourist destination for over a century, offering hiking, boating and fishing in one of the most photographed spots in the world. The area is understandably busy, and a $6 fee is required to park here for those who do no have a Northwest Forest Pass. There are several restrooms, a general store and overnight lodging, in addition to a public campground and picnicking - so visitors have many options for exploring the area. Hikes from the trailhead range from the easy Lost Lake Loop Hike to the somewhat more strenuous climb up the Lost Lake Butte Hike, and finally, the very strenuous Buck Peak Hike.

Driving Directions

To reach the trailhead, drive east of Portland on I-84 to exit 62 in Hood River. Head right, following the Highway 30 business route for one mile before turning right on 13th Street. Follow signs to Odell through several dogleg turns before reaching a bridge over the West Fork of the Hood River. From here, head right again, passing Tucker Park, then continuing six miles to the abandoned lumber mill at Dee. Veer right again, cross the Middle Fork of the Hood River, then follow signs for 14 miles to Lost Lake.

The entrance fee is payable at the entry kiosk. From there, follow signs to “day use area”, and turn right at the second junction to roadside parking near the small camp store. A second parking area is located across the outlet stream, past the store.
