Driving Directions
From I-5, take Exit 30 at Medford, then west on Hwy 230 through Jacksonville to the small community of Ruch. Turn south on Applegate Road for 15 miles to the Applegate Dam. Turn left over the dam on the paved road (FR 1075) signed for "Squaw Lakes" and proceed 1.4 miles, past the French Gulh Trailhead, to the next intersection to the left, which is gravel French Gulch Road (FR 490). This intersection is at a sharp right turn in FR 1075. Proceed up FR 490, past several private residences, for 2 miles to the trailhead. Note that it's also possible to drive to the upper end of the trail and to Squaw Peak (if the gate is open) so that you could arrange a shuttle for hikers who don't want to hike 11 miles round-trip.
