Lemmon's viewpoint is a paved, guard railed viewing area above [[Wahkeena Falls]]. This is one of the must-do hikes for newbies in the Gorge. The climb is steep in places, but it's worth the effort. Watch for bald eagles and passing low flying, vintage planes on sunny weekends.

Lemmons Viewpoint (Steve Hart)
Columbia River from Lemmons Viewpoint (Steve Hart)

Description

Lemmons Viewpoint is a paved, guardrailed viewing area above Wahkeena Falls. The trail to the viewpoint switchbacks up but is entirely paved. The climb is steep in places, but it's worth the effort. Watch for bald eagles and ospreys on sunny weekends. Don't think that this is the only thing to see. There are several other places worth visiting here, including family friendly Fairy Falls and the abandoned trail to the Necktie Falls.

A plaque here honors Keith L. Lemmons, who died at the age of 27 fighting a human-caused Nevada wildfire in August 1983. Keith was a firefighter for the Alaska Bureau of Land Management seconded to the Carson City BLM. He became trapped when fighting the Mound House Fire and was separated from his truck when the wind shifted. He died the next day from burns suffered during his attempt to escape.
