Description
This ridge top viewpoint, about two miles up from the Elk Meadows-Lamberson Spur Trail Junction, is about as far as the Lamberson Spur Trail has been maintained in recent years. You may still encounter blowdown on the way up here, but the rest of the trail tread, heading west along the ridge and then up to the nose of a spur, has been obscured by detritus from the 2008 Gnarl Ridge Fire and had not been maintained for years before that event. The trail was never completed to link with the Timberline Trail.
This point was used as a staging area during the fire fighting activity. Under emergency conditions, trees were cut even though this is part of the Mt. Hood Wilderness, and the debris tossed down the slope.
Only hikers with excellent backcountry and off-trail skills should proceed beyond this point to complete the Lamberson Spur Loop Hike.
