Lamberson Butte

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Looking up Gnarl Ridge from Lamberson Butte through the fire haze (bobcat)

Description

A short scramble takes you up the edge of a steep rim to the circle of whitebark pine skeletons at the summit of Lamberson Butte, the highest point on this section of Gnarl Ridge. There's a great view up to the Newton Clark Glacier from here as well as down into the Newton Creek Canyon. A brief cross-country jaunt off the back of the summit will reunite you with the Timberline Trail.

In 2020, seismometer apparatus was installed at the top of Lamberson Butte.

The prominence is named after Lewis H. Lamberson, a member of the Mazamas. According to McArthur & McArthur's Oregon Geographic Names, Lamberson made a trip to the top of the butte in about 1895.
