Driving Directions

From Brookings:

From the center of Brookings (Highway 101 and Center Street), drive east on Highway 101 for 0.5 miles.

Turn left on the North Bank Chetco River Road for Loeb Park and Azalea Park, and drive 15.9 miles (the North Bank Road becomes FR 1376).

After crossing a bridge over the South Fork Chetco River, turn right onto gravel FR 1909, and go 7.9 miles.

Make a sharp right at a junction, and continue on FR 1909 for 6.4 miles to another junction.

The Vulcan Peak Trailhead is to the right, but keep left on a very narrow, rough road for 1.7 miles to the trailhead.

Notes

  • The last mile or so to the trailhead is rough single lane on a steep slope; there are no pullouts. Look ahead for anyone coming towards you, stop, and back up.
