Description
Heron Pond is a shallow oxbow lake on the former course of Baker Creek, which now runs a straighter line just to the west. The pond is silting up, and red osier, dogwood, willow, and alder are growing where the creek once flowed freely. During winter storms, the creek can sometimes overflow into the pond, but the pond can also disappear at the end of dry summers. Ducks, geese, herons, and rails all find a haven at the pond.
