Description
This is an unmarked and very hard-to-find junction in the middle of Crane Prairie's series of dry meadows. After leaving the boggy area, the trail will pass through three meadows and then begin to rise a little. Pass a screen of young conifers, and reach a thicket of Sitka alder on the left. A faint trail leads up through a dry meadow. This is the junction with the Boulder Creek (formerly Crane Creek) Trail #478; the remains of the old sign may be lying on the ground. The latter trail is more obvious once you cross a small brook and leave the meadow, rising up the slope to the Camp Windy area. In the woods, a "5" sign on a tree indicates that you are five miles from the now totally abandoned Crane Creek Trailhead on FR 4870.
If you are coming up the Boulder Creek Trail from the east, you will pass through a couple of fence posts. The junction is a few hundred yards west of these posts. Look for the Sitka alder thicket.
