Description
This junction is a bit hard to spot and takes a bit of imagination to see once you get there. When walking the Cedar Falls Trail (marked “Aldrich Falls Trail” on area signs) from east to west, watch for this junction about a quarter mile past the Cedar Creek Crossing. You are following the creek for a little ways, then the water drops out of sight below you to the left. The trail curves slightly to the right and is now on a bit of a hillside. The view opens up a bit here. On a clear day there is a nice view of Hamilton Mountain due east. If you keep an eye out downhill to your left you can just make out the falls. (Moreso in the winter months when the leaves don’t obscure the view.) If you can’t see it you will likely hear it! From this point, follow the trail not even a hundred feet more before it takes a sharp turn right. Just as you take that sharp turn, look uphill. This vaguely defined ridgeline marks the Cedar Mountain trail. If you have a GPS (recommended for any hikes through this area) be sure to mark a wavepoint. If you reenter the dense forest and begin to see a bowl-like pond-ish flat area to your left – you’ve passed it.
