Description

The Big Bend Trailhead is the western end of the trail along the Rogue River. There's a dirt parking area that could hold maybe 20 cars. There's an outhouse. There's an informational sign with registration forms you should fill out and deposit. There are the remains of a couple fires where people have camped.

A mile before the Big Bend Trailhead is the Foster Bar boat ramp and campground. The campground is open year-round. There is a camp host year round (Bo - who's been there the last 4 years) overlooking the campground and boat ramp parking. This is the best place to park if you're going over night, then walk one mile along the road to the Big Bend Trailhead.

Two miles before the Big Bend Trailhead is Ilahe Campground which is open during the spring and summer only.

Agnes is a small community on the Rogue River. Three miles before Big Bend, turn left, and drive another three miles to Agnes.

The road over to Grave Creek starts at the junction to Agnes. Follow the signs to Powers, and then after a number of miles go right. I think it's gravel part way but paved most of the way.

The Bear Meadow Road takes off to the right, about six miles before Big Bend Trailhead.

Driving Directions

From Portland, drive south on I-5. Take Highway 38 to Reedsport. Take Highway 101 to Gold Beach. Just before Gold Beach, cross the Rogue River, and take the road east that goes on the south side of the Rogue River. Drive 35 miles to Ilahe. The road is two lane paved the whole way, except the last 3 miles is one lane paved with pullouts.

Alternately, you can take the route to Grave Creek Trailhead and either a few miles before take the Bear Road or just before Grave Creek Trailhead take the other road to the Big Bend Trailhead. These roads can be blocked by snow and downed trees in the winter and early spring.
