Description

Matchcutter's Lane is a narrow trail that heads up from the Banks Vernonia State Trail here. This is one of the most recently logged areas of the Stub Stewart State Park and the slope here is quite brushy.

"Matchcutting" is done when felling a tree is accomplished without an undercut, just a front cut and a back cut. Without an undercut, it is difficult to control the direction of the tree's fall.
