Hey everyone I'm Cody. Avid outdoorsman: hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping, etc (whenever free-time permits). Hiked quite a bit over the years, but mostly just short hikes in timber land above my house. Kinda want to get into full-blown backpacking and longer trekking. I'll actually be posting a thread to the General Topics board after this, asking about the forest passes system, if anyone can chime in on that when it goes live (trying to keep appropriate topics in appropriate sections).

Welcome, Cody. I think you'll enjoy backpacking, especially after a few shakedown hikes where you'll start to refine your strategies for finding the right trails and carrying the optimal load, so you can enjoy it in the way that best fits your own needs and desires. There's no one 'right' way to do it, just the way you like best.
