Lower Lewis River Falls, Is That A Polar Bear?

Post by flixter » September 30th, 2016, 10:56 am

Is That A Polar Bear?
That was the remark the young lady made to me, while I was at the
Lewis river Falls on Thursday (Sep 29, 2016) afternoon around three o'clock.
I hestitatedvfor a moment turned back around to see the white object, she was
referring to. Turns out it was mountain goat grazing along the river
just above the lower falls, pics of goat are below, just had time for these.

The darker thing 20 feet to the right is a miniature bison (the rare mossy green variety).

I have seen a dark spot like that before that on closer inspection turned out to be a bear actually

Second time I've seen a pic of low-elevation mt goats posted on oregonhikers. Interesting. I've seen countless goats, but never one below treeline.

This WDFW page has a "report a mountain goat encounter" link, which may or may not work.

Great catch. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing that pic. I've always wondered how goats get from place to place. Your pic proves the obvious. They hike there just like we would do. Now I wonder what the concentration of goats might be in places other than where we typically see them.

Definitely a goat this time. But it might have been a Kermode bear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kermode_bear
